Aerospace Non-destructive Testing (NDT)
Get QuoteNon-destructive testing (NDT) is a highly effective way to detect the very smallest of imperfections or damage in aerospace materials or components throughout their operational life, without materially affecting the integrity of the item being tested.
Aerospace non-destructive testing can be used to detect defects such as geometrical faults, e.g. material thickness, welding defects, bondline defects, delamination, wrinkles, porosity, dry areas, foreign objects, cracks or corrosion. This enables customers to ensure their products integrity and reliability while in-service, which allows them to save both time and money when evaluating their products, troubleshooting or carrying out research.
Applied Technical Services’ nondestructive testing group performs a variety of aviation NDT services to detect flaws in aircraft components. Whether they need failure analysis, product verification or condition assessment, clients request our aviation services because we return accurate results quickly. The methods we use to test aircraft parts are as follows:
- Radiography
- Eddy Current
- Ultrasonic Thickness Testing
- Magnetic Particle
- Liquid Penetrant
- Bond Testing
- Optical Prism
- Borescope
Element Expertise in Aerospace NDT Testing
Our aerospace non-destructive testing services comply with a wide variety of industry standards, government contracts and military specifications, as well as unique customer requirements.
We use ASNT Central Certification Program (ACCP), SNT-TC-1A certified technicians and Certified Weld Inspectors (CWIs) to deliver a full range of Level III non-destructive testing services, including certified weld inspection, to assist our clients in projects ranging from material analysis or product qualification testing to quality assurance and audit programs.

Radiography
Skyhub has over 8 years of experience in aviation radiography inspection. Having traveled nationally and internationally to shoot and develop images that assist aircraft owners in meeting inspection standards, Skyhub’ mobile radiography labs enable us to shoot most areas of your aircraft and allow us to do on-site development for immediate results and interpretation.
Eddy Current
Skyhub uses eddy current inspection to detect surface and subsurface flaws. Using state-of-the-art equipment allows us to inspect different aircraft components for cracks, corrosion, and change in temper condition caused by fatigue, stress, and extreme heat. Our techniques include: surface and subsurface inspections, rotating bolt hole inspections, MOI, and conductivity measurements.
Ultrasonic Thickness Testing
Our expert technicians use ultrasonic testing to discover internal and external flaws while inspecting many different parts of the aircraft structure. We offer on-site service to do full aircraft inspections and our Marietta and Greenville facilities offer in-shop ultrasonic inspections for many different aviation parts.
Magnetic Particle
Many aviation companies request Skyhub to perform a magnetic particle inspection on a wide variety of aircraft structures. Our technicians are skilled at finding cracks and other flaws as the result of fatigue, stress, and corrosion. Skyhub performs stationary and portable magnetic particle testing.
Liquid Penetrant
Liquid penetrant testing is commonly performed on many aircraft components to detect flaws. Skyhub offers all four sensitivity levels ensuring accurate results. We will perform liquid penetrant testing on-site or in our shop as relevant to client needs and the circumstances of the job.
Bond Testing
Skyhub offers bond testing to inspect the integrity of honeycomb composites, carbon fiber composites, fiber glass and metal to metal composites. Our state-of-the-art equipment uses three major techniques including pitch-catch, resonance, and mechanical impedance analysis to detect common bond flaws.
Optical Prism
Aviation customers request Optical Prism when they are suspicious of cracked windows and windshields. Skyhub also uses optical prism to identify chips, gouges and separation of plies. Our expert technicians have experience in performing these types of tests and they deliver accurate results.
Borescope
Skyhub's Borescope inspections take a closer look for interior flaws located in engines or other aircraft structures that have limited access. Our experts can identify these flaws that may have been caused by stress, fatigue and corrosion.
